Fixed Penalty Notices issued to fly-tippers
A further five fines have been issued by Bury Council to people who illegally dumped their waste in our borough.
Five fixed penalty notices of £2,000 (£400 each) were issued for fly-tipping offences at Merton Road, Walmsley Road, Heywood Street, Cateaton Street and at a Waste Management Unit (Private) at Ramsbottom.
Over the last several months we have issued:
- 15 Fly Tipping FPNs.
- 5 Littering FPNs.
Working alongside Bury’s Control Room, Housing, Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods teams, our Environmental Enforcement Officers use shared intelligence to identify offenders, gather evidence and support investigations.
By combining resources and information, we are taking firm action against fly-tipping and other environmental crimes that blight communities and harm the local environment. Evidence from CCTV, vehicle details and partner intelligence plays a key role in identifying those responsible and enables us to pursue enforcement measures such as Fixed Penalty Notices, cautions and prosecutions.
This coordinated approach is producing positive outcomes and makes it clear that environmental crime has consequences in Bury.
Residents also have access to 21 recycling centres across Greater Manchester, including two in Bury, where waste can be disposed of free of charge.

If using someone to dispose of their waste, residents should ask them for their address and telephone number, their waste carrier licence, and ask where their waste will be taken to.
