Press release -
Forces and Forties this weekend at Burrs
A Bank Holiday weekend of family attractions and military history takes place at Burrs Country Park in Bury.
The Forces and Forties event runs on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (24-26 August) and is also raising money for charity.
On each day there will be events at the park, including a Second World War re-enactment by North West Military Collectors who specialise in these events. They will also have living history stalls and military vehicles. The event organisers say Forties and military dress is optional, but ask that visitors do not wear SS uniforms.
There will also be karate and tai chi demonstrations, morris dancing, a fun fair and many more attractions, including – on Sunday – a pipe band and a car boot sale.
Admission is free, but there will be collections taken, with donations going to a Bury children’s charity and the Fusiliers Aid Society.
The weekend is organised by Events By Us. For more details, or to get involved, call Tony on 0161 761 5725 or 07761 737405.
Later in the year, on 14 September, there will be a Forces and Forties dance at Radcliffe Civic Suite. The evening will be compered by BBC radio presenter Steve Garner, and will feature the Swing Commanders and other artists. Dress to impress! Again, details from Tony on the above numbers.
