Foster Care Fortnight 2026: ‘This is Fostering’

Foster Care Fortnight returns from 11–24 May 2026, celebrating the power of fostering and sharing the diverse stories of carers and children across the community. This year’s theme, ‘This is Fostering’, shines a spotlight on the real experiences, dedication and impact of foster carers.

Bury Council is inviting local residents to find out more about fostering through a series of free events and online sessions taking place throughout the fortnight.

Whether you’re simply curious or ready to take the next step, these events offer the chance to meet the fostering team, ask questions, and learn about the support available to help you on your fostering journey.

  • 10am to 1pm, Wednesday 13 May – Information stand, Bury Library
  • 9.30am to 1pm, Thursday 14 May – information stand, Mill Gate shopping centre outside Boots.
  • 1pm to 1.45pm, Thursday 14 May – online webinar (sign up at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/foster-for-your-local-council-online-presentation-and-qa-north-west-tickets-1980644898208?aff=erelexpmlt)
  • 9am to 12 noon, Friday 15 May – drop-in session at the Fostering Hub, Bury Town Hall.
  • 10am to 5pm, Sunday 17 May – information stall at Prestwich Clough Day ( St Mary’s Flower Garden, Bury New Road, Prestwich)
  • 9am to 12 noon, Monday 18 May – Drop-in session, Fostering Hub, Bury Town Hall
  • 10am to 1pm, Wednesday 20 May – Information stand, Starbucks, Radcliffe
  • 9am to 12 noon, Friday 22 May – drop-in session, Fostering Hub, Bury Town Hall

Councillor Lucy Smith, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “We offer a range of fostering options to suit different lifestyles and commitments, from short-term and long-term placements to day care and occasional sleepovers.

“Fostering can be life-changing for both the child and the carer. If you’ve ever considered fostering, now is the perfect time to find out more. Taking this first step and finding out more could lead to making a lasting difference to a child’s life.”
