Press release -

Fun day to launch new era for Radcliffe Market Hall

The newly refurbished Radcliffe Market Hall will open its doors on Tuesday 2 December following an £800,000 refurbishment.

The market hall now boasts a new roof with solar panels, newly re-fitted stalls, new public toilets and community seating area next to a newly created picture window overlooking the river.

What’s more, the hall will now be open four days a week, with trading now on Thursdays as well as the regular Tuesday, Friday and Saturday market days.

In addition to many of the long-standing traders, there will be some new faces bringing with them new product lines to be sold alongside traditional favourites.

Residents are invited to the official grand opening ceremony and family fun day on Saturday 6 December, which incorporates the switch-on of Radcliffe’s Christmas lights.

The day starts at 1pm with a visit from Father Christmas, plus face painting for youngsters, live music from Black Lights, and mulled wine and chestnuts. Cast members of Frozen the Musical will make a guest appearance, there will be rides on a miniature railway, and a free prize draw to win a luxury food hamper.

Radcliffe Market Hall will be officially declared open on at 2.30pm by Councillor Mike Connolly, leader of the council. The Christmas lights will then be switched on by the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Michelle Wiseman, and Bury South MP Ivan Lewis at 4.30pm.

The market hall refurbishment was carried out by local contractors H.H. Smith and Sons, who have also carried out improvements to Bury Market.

Cllr Connolly said: “Radcliffe Market is an important part of our ambitious plans to regenerate and revitalise Radcliffe town centre, in partnership with local businesses and the newly formed Radcliffe Town Team.

“This is just the first phase, and will be followed by a new bus station and retail-led development. I’m sure that shoppers will be delighted with the refurbishment and will visit the market hall regularly to support local traders. ”
