Get vaccinated – but at the right time!

Residents are being reminded of the time they need to wait between getting Covid jabs or being vaccinated after having had the virus.

Health officials say a number of individuals and families have been coming for their jabs before they are allowed to have them. This could be because they want to go abroad on holiday, and foreign countries have recently changed their proof of vaccination requirements.

Waiting times between Covid jabs:

  • For over-18s, the gap between first and second doses is 8 weeks.
  • For those aged 12 to 17, the gap between first and second doses is 12 weeks.
  • Boosters for over-16s: the wait between your second jab and your booster is 12 weeks.

If you test positive for Covid, or have symptoms:

  • Over-18s have to wait 4 weeks to get any dose of the vaccine.
  • Those aged 12 to 17 must wait 12 weeks to get any dose of the vaccine - unless they are at high risk from Covid, in which case the wait is 4 weeks.

Lesley Jones, Bury’s director of public health, said: “Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself against Covid, and we want everyone who is eligible to come forward and get their jabs.

“However, it is necessary to wait the required time period between doses, or if you have had Covid. This is national policy, and it’s something we have no control over.”
