Getting vital cash support to local businesses

More than 1,000 Bury businesses are now receiving grants totalling £12.6 million to help them through the Covid-19 crisis.

The council has been working flat out to administer these Government payments to those across the borough who are eligible.

So far the authority has processed and paid into bank accounts 614 payments worth £7.3 million, comprising 533 grants of £10k and 81 grants of £25k.

In addition, a further 450 payments totalling £5.25 million have been processed today and will be in bank accounts next week, comprising 400 grants of £10k and 50 grants of £25k.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, cabinet member for finance and housing, said: “Our staff have been working tremendously hard to administer all these payments, which will make real difference to hundreds of Bury companies and the staff they employ.

“These are unprecedented times, and we are determined to do all we can to support them during these unprecedented times.”

He added: “We are still contacting businesses about the grants and the Business Rates Relief scheme, and we would urge any business that has not yet responded to get in touch with us.”
