​Golfers wanted for Mayor’s annual charity tournament

Keen – and kind-hearted - golfers are being invited to take part in the Mayor of Bury’s annual charity golf tournament.

Now in its 29^th year, the event is held at Harwood Golf Club on Thursday 6 September.

All proceeds will go to charities personally chosen by the mayor, Councillor Jane Black, which are Grace’s Place Children’s Hospice and The Fed, a social care charity for the Jewish community.

The golf club was founded in 1926 by four local shopkeepers, and the par 70 course provides players with superb views of the West Pennine Moors.

Organised by Bury Sports and Physical Activity Service, the tournament is a four-person Stableford with a shotgun start at 2pm.

A maximum handicap of 36 for ladies and 24 for gents, with only the best two scores per hole to count, means that players can invite friends and colleagues to join their team and gain valuable golfing experience.

The event includes new challenges such as ‘Beat the Pro’ as well as the traditional ‘Nearest the Pin’ and ‘Longest Drive’ plus optional fund raisers such as ‘Hit the Green’, all followed by a three course meal.

The club’s lounge and bar which will be open throughout the day for refreshments, and players can also use a 300-yard practice facility and short game area with target greens and bunkers, practice putting green, chipping area and warm-up net.
