Grand opening of Elmhurst and Woodbury social care facilities

A grand opening event was held to celebrate the refurbishment of Elmhurst and Woodbury, Bury’s co-located short stay and respite facilities for older people and people with learning disabilities.

Investment of £1.6 million has transformed an old-style institution into a hotel model with fully equipped en-suite bedrooms, high quality fixtures and fittings with the emphasis on durability and discreet care for customers, and state-of-the-art technology for optimum efficiency and economy.

It includes a vibrant Hub where residents can enjoy drinks, snacks and meals with carers, families and members of the community and other facilities such as a modern hairdressing salon which can also be enjoyed by local residents.

The opening event was attended by Councillor Mike Connolly, leader of Bury Council; Mike Kelly, the council’s chief executive; and Pat Jones-Greenhalgh, executive director for communities and wellbeing.

At the open day, visitors were invited to tour the facilities, talk to customers and join in the kind of activities which residents take part in during their stays, which included memory boxes, chair-based exercise sessions and music activity groups.
