Grants of up to £3,000 are being awarded to local businesses

Grants of up to £3,000 are available to small and medium sized businesses to support their recruitment of apprentices across Greater Manchester.

The Growth Company has been commissioned by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) to develop and deliver an online apprenticeship Levy Matchmaking.

Since its launch in August 2019, more than £2 million has been committed by Greater Manchester’s apprenticeship levy payers which could support more than 300 apprenticeships.

Councillor David Jones, leader of Bury Council, said: “Apprenticeships are crucial in bridging the skills gap and creating good quality employment opportunities which boost productivity.

“Apprenticeships, which combine workplace training with study, can have a big impact on an organisation, from improving profitability to bringing in new skills.

“Many businesses choose to recruit an apprentice, not least because the UK economy is boosted by £28 for every £1 invested in an apprentice.”

The grants are available to companies with a wage bill of less than £3 million. Other eligibility applies.
