Press release -

Greening Ramsbottom gateway improvements

Bury Council, working alongside Proffitts – Investing in Communities CIC, have launched a public consultation to gather community feedback about proposals to upgrade two key gateway sites in Ramsbottom.

The improvement proposals focus on Market Place where the Tilted Vase sculpture is located and the Bridge Street Gardens site, situated off Bridge Street and adjacent to the East Lancs Railway signal box. The proposed works aim to refresh and enhance these well-used spaces, ensuring they remain attractive, welcoming and accessible for the whole community.

Proposals under consideration include updated planting and landscaping, improved access and entrances, and the introduction of new seating, signage and bins. The overall ambition is to create more inviting spaces that support town centre activity, encourage people to spend time locally and strengthen Ramsbottom’s appeal for residents and visitors alike.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, Bury Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategic Growth, said: ‘’We are really pleased to be working on proposals to enhance important areas within Ramsbottom town centre. These spaces play a key role in the daily life of the community, and we are eager to make improvements that enhance these well-known sites, while also maintaining the character that makes Ramsbottom so special.

“This consultation gives the community an opportunity to help shape the plans, and provide feedback to inform the next stage of development and ensure the improvements reflect local priorities and aspirations.’’
