Press release -

Have your say at township forum

Residents are invited to have their say on a huge range of issues to be discussed at the Bury East Township Forum.

The meeting takes place on Wednesday 20 March at theUkrainian Club in Openshaw Street, starting at 7pm. It features the usual open forum and public question time in the second half of the meeting.

Also on the agenda will be an update on the council’s StreetSafe initiative, which includes the introduction of 20mph schemes in residential areas and streets.

Officers will also explain what upcoming changes in welfare benefits will mean for local residents. These changes relate to Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit (specifically under-occupancy) and the Social Fund, as well as disability related benefits.

The council will also outline what has been achieved in improving Bury’s recycling rate since major services were introduced in October 2011, and the challenges faced in getting that rate up to 50% and beyond.

Further details: David Thomas, Township Co-ordinator, 0161 253 7455.
