Have your say on latest StreetSafe proposals

Summerseat and Ferngrove are the latest residential areas in the borough where the council proposes to reduce the legal speed limit to 20mph.

Bury Council’s StreetSafe initiative is targeted at residential estates and areas with first priority initially being given to streets which have schools present or where there is a history of problems due to through traffic.

StreetSafe aims to improve safety for all road users, encourage drivers to drive more carefully, reduce the number and severity of accidents, and encourage people to walk and cycle.

In the Ferngrove area, the council proposes to:

  • Establish an area-wide 20mph zone with signing at all boundary points
  • Introduce speed cushions on Huntley Mount Road, Thrush Drive, Kingfisher Drive and Ferngrove
  • Introduce “dummy” speed cushions on Ferngrove
  • Introduce repeater signs and/or “20” carriageway roundels throughout the area

In Summerseat Village, the council proposes to:

  • Establish an area-wide 20mph speed limit with signing at all boundary points.
  • Introduce repeater signs and/or “20” carriageway roundels throughout the area
  • It is anticipated that streets to the immediate west of this scheme (within the Holcombe Brook East area) will be the subject of a further consultation at a later date

Residents in both Ferngrove and Summerseat, whose properties lie within the scheme boundaries, will receive details of the proposals through the post.

Anyone, however, can have their say on the proposals. To make a comment, follow the “Consultations” link on the council’s website at www.bury.gov.uk/streetsafe or write to StreetSafe, 3 Knowsley Place, Duke Street, Bury BL9 0EJ.Closing date for comments is Monday 17 March.
