Press release -
Have your say on the future of Ramsbottom Market
Residents and businesses are being invited to share their views on the potential return of Ramsbottom Market.
The Saturday market had served the town for more than 40 years before closing in early 2025. Revitalising the market is one of the key proposals in the Ramsbottom Town Plan, which sets out a series of ideas to strengthen the town centre and support its economy.
Bury Council is now asking the public for their opinions on what a future market could look like, including whether Ramsbottom should have a market at all, what format it should take, where it should be located, how frequently it should operate, and what alternative options might be considered.
The online consultation will run until 22 March, and people are asked to give their views at www.surveymonkey.com/r/S7BDWS5
If you require a paper copy, email Ramsbottomplan@bury.gov.ukor ring 0161 253 7760 and leave your details and one will be posted to you with a SAE.
Following the consultation, feedback will be analysed and presented to councillors for consideration.
Simon Green, markets manager at Bury Council, said: “We know that markets can be real assets to our town centres. They draw in visitors, boost footfall on the high street, support our independent shops and cafés, and give local entrepreneurs opportunities to start and grow their businesses.
“It’s important to get it right from the start, which is why we’re inviting people to have their say. We want to shape a market that reflects what residents, traders and visitors want to see, and one that truly works for the town.”
