Press release -

Help shape the future of your community at the June Township Forums

Residents are invited to attend their respective Township Forums this June to help shape the future of their community.

The ‘round table’ discussions will take place on the local Town Plan, where residents have their say about local concerns and how improvements to the area can be made.

The plans consider emerging issues and lay out achievable projects within a set period which are monitored and reported on throughout the year. There will also be the usual open forum in which to raise any local matters.

The Township Forums are also looking for representatives to sit on their advisory boards, expressing their views on local issues and helping to improve the range of knowledge and expertise on the forums.

They are required to provide a link with similar organisations/groups in their area and the forum, play a key role in projects and initiatives to improve the area, use networking to communicate important issues and inform others about the work of the forum and attend all, or most, of the forum meetings. We are particularly interested to hear from 14-24 year olds to sit on the advisory boards and represent the youth community in their areas.

Meeting dates are:

  • Whitefield and Unsworth: 2 June, 6.30pm, Whitefield (Elms) Methodist Church
  • Bury West: 2 June, 7pm, The Elton Centre
  • Radcliffe: 3 June, 6pm, Radcliffe Civic Suite
  • Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor: 3 June, 7pm, Ramsbottom Civic Hall
  • Prestwich: 4 June, 6.30pm, The Longfield Suite
  • Bury East: 4 June, 7pm, Metro Christian Centre, Parkhills Road

Councillor Jane Lewis, cabinet member for communities, said: “This is the start of our new three-year plans, where residents play a vital role in tackling concerns and working with stakeholders to enhance their local communities making them a place to live, work and visit. Bury Council is committed to engaging with young people and building strong links with our next generation. These Town Plans will set out local priorities and mould our communities, making them sustainable for years to come.”
