Help to shape the future of Whitefield

Whitefield residents are being invited to help shape the future of the town centre.

An open consultation event is being held on Saturday (20 May) for everyone to play an early role in drawing up the Whitefield town plan.

It takes place from 9am to 5pm at the corner of Church Lane and Bury New Road, opposite Whitefield tram stop. Visitors can drop in at any time to share their opinions with to officers from Bury Council and representatives from Planit IE, the consultants appointed to lead on developing the plan.

Anyone who is unable to attend the consultation event can still have their say, by filling in an online questionnaire. This survey will run from Saturday 20 May until Friday 16 June, and is at www.onecommunitybury.co.uk/whitefield-town-centre-plan

The Whitefield town centre plan aims to identify short, medium, and longer term proposals which will improve Whitefield’s public open spaces and introduce new place marketing plans. Where possible, the short and medium term proposals will be led or delivered in partnership with the community.

As well as Saturday’s open event, meetings will be held with local community groups and businesses,

These engagement sessions will prepare the ground for a visit in June from the High Streets Street Task Force, a national organisation which supports local authorities to bring about long-term change to towns and cities.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, leader of the council, said: “We are determined to ensure that every part of our borough is well prepared to meet the challenges of the future.

“We want all residents across Whitefield and Unsworth to be part of this process. Please take time to attend Saturday’s meeting or give us your views using the online survey and questionnaire.”
