Housing partners provide 18 family homes in Prestwich

Great Places Housing Group has recently acquired the site of the former Tulle Court in Prestwich to build 18 family homes.

Development had stalled for a number of years due to the downturn in the housing market. As a result, the site became unsightly and attracted anti-social behaviour.

The new development will provide three-bedroom houses for ‘affordable rent’ and will complement the previous schemes carried out by Great Places in the area - the refurbishment of the retained block of
the original Tulle Court, and the new older person’s bungalows on the former St Mary’s Court site. The new build will be in materials sympathetic to the surrounding properties, in particular those in the conservation area on Church Lane.

Building works started on the site in June, and a drop-in session was held for local residents to allow them to comment on the scheme.

St Mary's councillor Jane Black, who also chairs the Prestwich Regeneration Group, has welcomed this move.

"I am delighted that Great Places is building 18 new family houses in a central Prestwich location.  Bury Council has worked closely with them to ensure that this site can now be developed.”

Peter Bojar, director of development at Great Places Housing Group, said: “We have worked closely with our council partners to get the site developed so we can provide much needed family homes in the area.”

The council will have nomination rights to the first letting of the new scheme. Anyone interested in becoming a tenant of these properties should call the council’s Housing Choices Contact Team on 0161 253 5251 or email housingchoicescontact@bury.gov.uk
