Improvement Works Begin at Whitefield Old Town Hall Gardens

Bury Council is set to begin a new phase of improvement works at Whitefield Old Town Hall Gardens from this Thursday (25thJune), helping to create a more attractive and welcoming space for residents and visitors.

The upgrades, which have been shaped by feedback from local residents and community groups, include the installation of new benches, picnic tables and a community noticeboard, alongside improvements to entrances and pathways. New trees, shrubs, wildflowers and spring bulbs will also be planted throughout the site, helping to enhance the appearance of the gardens and create a more enjoyable environment for everyone to use.

Improvements to the pond will take place later in October, following advice from ecologists to minimise disturbance during sensitive periods. The work will help restore the condition of this important feature within the gardens and support its long-term management.

Councillor Charlotte Morris, cabinet member for regeneration and growth, said: "Whitefield Old Town Hall Gardens is a much-loved local green space, and these improvements will help ensure it can be enjoyed for years to come. We are fortunate to have a passionate group of volunteers who care deeply about the gardens and help keep them looking their best. This investment will support their efforts while creating an even more welcoming space for residents and visitors."

Some areas of the gardens may be temporarily fenced off while works are carried out. Visitors are asked to follow on-site signage to help ensure the safety of both the public and contractors.

The works are expected to last for 4-6 weeks, weather permitting.
