Improving the lives of children with special needs

Parent and carers of children with additional needs, plus stakeholders, are holding a special event at Bury Town Hall to share information and to support children and young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).

The free drop-in information day, held in partnership with Bury2Gether, is at the Elizabethan Suite on Thursday 6 October from 10am to 2pm.

A range of SEND services and providers will be on hand to offer advice to all those who attend. There will also be a performance by the choir from Elms Bank High School, and the launch of a new toolkit for local schools to help them identify and support children and young people with SEND.

Councillor Lucy Smith, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “Meeting the needs of children and young people with SEND is a top priority for me. Everything starts with the child, and their lived experience, and they and their families must be at the heart of everything we do.

“I’m delighted that parents, carers and service professionals are taking such a leading role in organising this event and working together to improve the lives of our young people.

“I urge everyone involved in SEND to come along next Thursday, learn from each other and continue the journey to provide the best possible services and life chances for Bury’s children.”
