Latest events in the ‘Gadgeteers’ Summer Reading Challenge

Wildlife, toys and arts and crafts await Bury youngsters who take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

Sessions are taking place across Bury’s libraries, when children aged 4-11 are invited to meet the Gadgeteers and get involved in the science and innovation themed challenge.

With free materials from the libraries and online via the Challenge website, youngsters will be able to borrow and read six books, collecting stickers on the way.

All those who complete the challenge will be awarded a Certificate and a Summer Reading Challenge Gadgeteers medal. They will also be entered into a prize draw for the opportunity to win a Garmin Vivofit Kids Activity Tracker, with the prizes to be awarded by the Mayor in a special ceremony.

Upcoming activities:

Design and print your holiday book bag, using Indian wood blocs and fabric paint:

  • Tuesday 26 July – Ramsbottom Library at 10.30am, and Radcliffe Library at 2pm.
  • Wednesday 27 July – Bury Library at 10.30am, and Prestwich Library at 2pm.

Curious Critters – another visit from the exciting exotic animal handling experience:

  • Thursday 4 August – Radcliffe Library at 1.30pm, and Prestwich Library at 3.30pm.
  • Friday 5 August – Ramsbottom Library at 10am, and Bury Library at 12pm.

Spinning toys for 4-6 year olds:

  • Thursday 11 August – Bury Library at 1.30pm, and Prestwich Library at 4pm.
  • Friday 12 August – Radcliffe Library at 10.30am, and Ramsbottom Library at 2pm.

All about birds – painting, craft and story fun:

  • Wednesday 17 August – Radcliffe Library at 10.30am, and Bury Library at 2.30pm.
  • Friday 19 August – Prestwich Library at 2.30pm.
