Let’s Do It Together – join local conversations and share your experiences of race

Local public sector partners are working hard to make sure their services are inclusive for everybody, with inclusion at the heart of the Bury’s Let’s Do It strategy.

Bury Council, NHS Bury Clinical Commission Group and other public service partners working across the borough want to hear to the views, and experiences of local people about how race affects living, working and studying in the borough.

They want people to help shape how organisations deliver their services and support Bury’s diverse communities in a way which is truly informed by the lived experiences, and priorities, of our communities.

A series of listening sessions is taking place which people are encouraged to come along to:

  • Wednesday 10 November, noon-2pm – The Attic Project, 3 Russell Street, Bury, BL9 5AX.
  • Monday 15 November, 10am-2.30pm (stay for the session or drop in when you can) - Sedgley Children’s Centre, Bishops Road, Prestwich, M25 0HT.
  • Wednesday 17 November, 9.30-11am - Brandlesholme Community Centre, 375b Brandlesholme Road, Bury, BL8 1HS.
  • Thursday 18 November, 10am-2.30pm (stay for the session or drop in when you can) - New Life Church, Stand Lane, Radcliffe, M26 1QG.

These sessions will inform a borough wide listening session in mid-December.

Councillor Tahir Rafiq, the cabinet member with responsibility for inclusion, said: “We know that people from different backgrounds experience different issues which can lead to differing levels of being included or excluded within our society.

“It can be in how they are accepted, and represented, and how much influence and opportunities they have.

“We would like to hear from groups and individuals about how race affects their experience of living, working and studying locally.

“We want to listen and learn, to make sure local services - council, health and other public services - are inclusive for everybody in their design, access and engagement.

“Please come along, share you experience and together we can make a difference. There is no need to book onto any of the sessions.

“We are looking to engage with as many and diverse people as possible – these events are just one of the ways to get involved. Further detail will follow shortly on other means of getting involved and sharing your experience; in the meantime you can do this through emailing corporate.core@bury.gov.uk or you can write to Race Listening Activity, Bury Town Hall, Knowsley Street, Bury, BL9 0SW.”
