Look after your loved ones during Family Safety Week

Parents and children are being urged to take part in Family Safety Week, which runs from 24 to 28 March.

The campaign will look at the common causes of accidents and offer practical advice on how to reduce the risks. Developed by RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents), it will also address some myths around health and safety.

This year’s themes include home safety for pre-school children, water skills for older children and helping learner drivers, along with safer commuting for adults and preventing falls for older people. Families can get involved by making an online pledge, completing the online Accident Survey (both of which are at http://www.familysafetyweek.org.uk/), and sharing information with family and friends.

Jan Brabin, senior road safety officer for Bury Council, said: “Most people have their family’s safety and well-being close to their heart and will do everything they can to protect their loved ones. A key element to our work is making sure everyone has access to the right help and information.”

The road safety team will continue to deliver road safety initiatives through education, training and publicity in order to raise awareness and reduce casualties among all road users. In particular, officers are involved in the Safe Young Driver scheme, which is being run at the Ford Garage on 8 and 9 April. (For more information on this, contact Fire Officer Paul Simpson on SYD@MANCHESTERFIRE.GOV.UK)

The road safety team will also be organising a Child Car Seat Clinic on 15 and 17 July - details to follow.
