Major road works near Bury town centre to ease congestion

Press release -

Major road works near Bury town centre to ease congestion

Work will start in March to improve the junction between Wash Lane and Rochdale Road which will reduce queue lengths and improve journey times.

The eastbound carriageway will be widened which will allow a longer two-lane approach to the junction. The eastbound footway will also be widened as part of the scheme.

The works are being promoted by Bury Council in conjunction with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).

During construction a closure will operate on Wash Lane so that the works can be carried out safely. The closure will be in place on Wash Lane between Willow Street and Rochdale Road. A diversion route will be in place via Bond Street and Rochdale Road. The remainder of Wash Lane will still be open to two-way traffic.

The highway works are anticipated to begin on 1 March and last 16 weeks.
