Mayor’s Christmas greetings to Bury residents

Press release -

Mayor’s Christmas greetings to Bury residents

“As 2014 draws to a close it gives me the opportunity to reflect on my six months since being inaugurated as Mayor of Bury.

“Since June the Mayoress and I have had the privilege of meeting many residents, and we have been overwhelmed by the number of hardworking and dedicated volunteers who give their time freely to a wide range of voluntary organisations in the borough.

“We have spent time visiting schools and also invited many students into the council chambers and the Mayor’s Parlour. We have also entertained many visitors from overseas, sharing with them the history and diversity of our town. We have visited many local businesses and supported many charity events. My recent Mayoral Ball raised much needed funds for my two chosen charities, Grace’s Place and the North West Air Ambulance.

“In August we commemorated the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War, and we were honoured to have attended the many services held in Bury to remember those who gave their lives in this ‘war to end all wars’. The annual Remembrance Sunday service and parade was extremely well attended and I was proud to stand with the people of Bury to show our respects to those who have given their lives in conflicts.

“One special young man who particularly touched our hearts was Joshua Wilson whose mother Dawn Fidler has set up the Superjosh charity to raise funds for brain tumour awareness and support.  We were deeply saddened by his loss in November and wish Dawn and her family only happy memories of his short but full life.

“This month we have attended many carol concerts and have been impressed by the talent of the many choirs, musicians and budding school thespians who have been entertained us.

“We wish all the residents of Bury seasonal greetings and a happy and peaceful 2015.”
