Press release -

Midlands events proposed as operator for new ‘Casewells’ venue at Bury Market

A decision on appointing Midlands Events Bury Ltd (MEB) as the operator of the new food, drink and events hall under construction at Bury Market, will be taken by councillors at Bury Council’s Cabinet meeting on 11 February. If approved, MEB will manage the venue ahead of its completion in summer 2026 and planned opening during the autumn.

Casewells will include 12 food and retail units, a central bar and a stage for performances and community events. The venue is set to become a major new destination, enhancing Bury’s world‑famous market and contributing to a stronger daytime and evening economy.

MEB, experienced operators of multi‑use food and event spaces, are proposed to take on a 15‑year lease, drawing on their successful work at Queens Market in Rhyl, which opened in 2025 with full trader occupancy and strong visitor numbers.

The name Casewells was chosen through public consultation, reflecting the heritage of Casewell's, believed to be the shop that produced Bury’s first black pudding in 1810.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, Leader of Bury Council and Cabinet Member for Strategic Growth, said: “Casewells will play a key role in strengthening Bury town centre, supporting our night‑time economy and building on the success of our world‑famous market and other town centre businesses and attractions. Subject to Cabinet approval, appointing an experienced operator like Midland Events will ensure the venue launches with a vibrant and high‑quality offer.

“This is an exciting milestone for the project and for the future of the town centre. I’m already looking forward to celebrating the opening of this fantastic new venue later in the year – this will signal another step forward in our major town centre regeneration programme.”

Jordan Burnett, Director, Midlands Events Bury Ltd, said: “We’re delighted to be considered as the operator for Casewells. This venue has huge potential to bring together great food, culture and community activity in a space that reflects Bury’s heritage and character – shaped by its people but reimagined for today and the future. We look forward to the opportunity to work with Bury Council and local traders to create a destination the community can be proud of.”
