More chances to inspect homes and jobs masterplan

Council leaders in Bury are giving the public even more opportunities to have their say on a Greater Manchester plan aimed at boosting housing and jobs.

A third public drop-in session in Bury will take place on Friday 6 January at the Elizabethan Suite in Bury Town Hall, following the two that have already taken place and which attracted 300 visitors.

Between noon and 7pm, people can look at the proposals for Bury contained in the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (GMSF). This is a strategic planning guide to meeting Greater Manchester’s employment and housing needs for the next 20 years and beyond.

Residents can also view the plans at the following Township Forum meetings in the New Year:

  • Radcliffe – 10 January, from 5pm, at Radcliffe United Reformed Church
  • Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor – 10 January, from 6pm, at Tottington Methodist Church
  • Prestwich – 12 January, from 5.30pm, at the Longfield Suite
  • Bury East – 12 January, from 6pm, at the Peel Room, Bury Town Hall

Although consultation officially closes on 16 January, there will still be an opportunity to look at the plans and discuss them at two more Township Forum meetings:

  • Whitefield and Unsworth – 17 January, from 12pm, at the Elms Community Centre in Whitefield
  • Bury West – 17 January, from 6pm, at the Elton Centre in Bury

Councillor Rishi Shori, leader of Bury Council, said: “This is a huge issue, and I am determined that as many people as possible in Bury have their say on these proposals.

“That’s why I persuaded the other council leaders in Greater Manchester to extend the consultation from 23 December to 16 January, and why we’re holding these extra meetings in Bury.

“I encourage everyone to take part in the consultation, inspect the plans at the drop-in sessions, and make their views known.”

Copies of the GMSF can be viewed at www.greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk/GMSFwebsite, and in Bury at local libraries, at the council’s planning department reception in Knowsley Place, Bury, and at Bury Town Hall reception.

Responses to the consultation should be made:
