Press release

More people fined for fly-tipping and littering

A further three fines have been issued by Bury Council to people who illegally dumped their waste in our borough.

Five fixed penalty notices of £2,000 were issued for fly-tipping offences at Heywood Street, Walmersley Old Road, Shepherd Street in Bury, and, Holland Street and Ainsworth Road in Radcliffe.

A further £75 FPN was issued for littering on Shepherd Street, Bury.

In this quarter we have issued:

  • 10 Fly Tipping FPNs.
  • 5 Littering FPNs.

Our Environmental Enforcement Officers work closely with Bury’s Control Room, Housing, Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods teams to share intelligence, identify offenders and support investigations.

By working together, we are tackling fly-tipping and other environmental crimes that harm our communities and green spaces. CCTV, vehicle details and partner intelligence help us identify those responsible and take enforcement action, including Fixed Penalty Notices, cautions and prosecutions.

This joined-up approach is delivering positive results and sending a clear message that environmental crime will not be tolerated in Bury.

There are 21 recycling centres across Greater Manchester, including two in the borough of Bury, where residents can take their waste free of charge for disposal. For local and other centres visit: www.bury.gov.uk/recyclingcentres

If using someone to dispose of their waste, residents should ask them for their address and telephone number, their waste carrier licence, and ask where their waste will be taken to. You can carry out an instant (and free) check of their credentials via the Environment Agency: https://environment.data.gov.uk/publicregister/view/search-waste-carriers-brokers
