More time to consult on destination management

Bury Council has extended its consultation period on how best to support tourism in the borough.

Businesses and residents now have until 7 December to have their say on the council’s destination management proposals.

The proposals include: more use of online resources, changes to the way the Tourist Information Centre operates, possible staff reductions, recruiting ‘ambassadors’ to support events, and increasing the amount the council spends on kick-starting events.

A stakeholder event was held last night (Monday 26 Nov) at the Elizabethan Suite for businesses who use the council’s tourism and business support services, and the providers and owners of the borough’s tourist attractions.

Councillor Jane Lewis, cabinet member for leisure, tourism and culture, said: “Last night’s event went very well, and many people have comments to make on these proposals. That’s why we’ve put the consultation deadline back, from 30 November to 7 December, to give people more time to take part in the discussions on how best we can continue to bring tourists into Bury.”

People can take part in the consultation by:

  • Picking up a questionnaire at local libraries and public buildings, and returning it to The Policy and Improvement Team, Bury Council,BuryTown Hall,Knowsley Street,BuryBL9 0SW.
