New Cycle Storage Facility Unveiled at Bury FC
A new cycle storage facility has been installed at Bury FC as part of a collaborative initiative between Bury Football Club, Bury Council’s Public Health Team and Transport for Greater Manchester to encourage sustainable and active travel.
The bike storage unit has been introduced to support fans and the wider community to travel to the ground in a more environmentally friendly way. The partnership aims to reduce reliance on car journeys, improve local air quality, and encourage healthier lifestyles through increased physical activity.
Hannah Brindle, Community Development Officer at Bury FC, said:
“This new cycle storage is a fantastic addition for our fans and the wider community. We want Gigg Lane to be a space that welcomes everyone, not just on matchdays but throughout the week, and making it easier for people to travel actively helps us do that. It supports healthier lifestyles, reduces barriers to access, and strengthens our connection with the community we serve.”
Lee Buggie, Public Health Specialist at Bury Council and a former Bury FC player, added: “Having played for the club and now working in public health within the borough, I know first-hand the important role Bury FC plays in the community. The introduction of cycle storage is a step towards creating healthier stadium environments and giving fans more options to travel actively. Small changes like this can make a significant difference in helping people to move more and live healthier lives.”
Rooted in a shared passion for the club and the town, the initiative reflects the strong local ties of those involved, with partners bringing both professional expertise and personal connection to delivering positive change for the community.
The new facility is now available for use, and supporters are encouraged to take advantage of the improved infrastructure on matchdays and beyond.
