New outdoor gym to get you fit and healthy

Bury’s seventh outdoor gym to encourage people to exercise in healthy surroundings is now up and running in Manchester Road Park, Bury.

The equipment is made from stainless steel and supplied by Playfit, ensuring it looks good in a park setting, is robust, easy to clean and value for money.

The new equipment consists of a “Sit and Pull”, a “Sit and Cycle”, a “Sit and Row”, a walker and 2 Ellipticals.

Councillor Andrea Simpson, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The health of our residents is a priority for Bury Council and our parks are a great asset to our borough, offering people of all ages the opportunity to improve their wellbeing and lead a more active lifestyle. With outdoor gyms, play areas, 321 routes, tennis courts, football pitches, multi-play ball zones, bowling greens and accessible walks, they offer something for everyone.”

The first outdoor gym was installed at Close Park, Radcliffe in 2011, with the help of the Friends of Close Park and its success has set the standard for outdoor gyms across the borough.

The other outdoor gyms are in Nuttall Park, Ramsbottom; Clarence Park, Bury East; Whitehead Park, Bury West; Hamilton Road Park, Whitefield; and St Mary’s Park, Prestwich.
