New parenting classes launched in Radcliffe

Health visitors in Radcliffe have launched a series of new parenting classes to help mums and dads learn more about child health and how to manage behaviour and sleep problems.

A parent information session is held every Friday at Coronation Road Children’s Centre, from 10am to 11:30am, where parents and grandparents can go for advice on how they can ensure children are healthy and active, to support their emotional and physical development.  Health visitors are on hand to share tips on good basic child care routines and can provide support for a range of topics including breastfeeding, weaning, dental care and developing speech and language.

A specific session has also been launched to help with sleep management, providing parents with skills and techniques to introduce bedtime routines and boundaries.  A more detailed session on how to manage challenging behaviour is also available.

Christine Verity, Health Visitor, leads the programme.  She said: “The sessions are designed to meet the needs of families in the local community. They are based on parent’s question of ‘What to do if’ offering guidance, help and support to parents on early parenting and child care issues. The sessions include a variety of fun times such as sing along and messy play but are equally educational. All are held at Radcliffe Children’s Centres which are perfectly sited, easily accessible and welcoming for all children and families.”

Councillor Sharon Briggs, the Mayor of Bury, attended one of the parenting sessions at Coronation Road Children’s Centre on Friday 13 September, where she observed a session in action and talked to parents about how the sessions benefit them.
