Over 50? Get your free flu jab now at the Elizabethan Suite!

Free flu jabs for the over-50s and those with underlying health conditions are going down well at the Elizabethan Suite in Bury.

Next to the town hall, the centre opened as a vaccination clinic yesterday and visitors have been extremely impressed.

The Elizabethan Suite will be open for flu jabs until Tuesday 15 December (including Saturday and Sunday) from 9am to 5pm. Health and council leaders are keen that as many people as possible take advantage of this offer and protect themselves against this potentially serious illness.

Some comments from those who had their flu jab yesterday:

  • "Received a text message on Wednesday and less than 24 hours later I’d had my vaccination. A very efficient arrangement, excellent facilities and helpful and friendly staff. Well done Bury NHS."
  • "Excellent service very efficient friendly and safe."
  • "Very efficient quick and easy. If this is how the Covid vaccine is done it should be a breeze. Well done."
  • "Painless, quick, friendly and efficient. If this the precursor for Covid vaccine then it couldn’t be any better. Bring it on."

Fin McCaul, clinical lead for long-term conditions at NHS Bury CCG and pharmacist at Prestwich Pharmacy, said: “This is the first year that the NHS has provided free flu vaccinations for all people in England over the age of 50. This winter we feel it is especially important to get your flu vaccination and to protect you and your family.

“This is a great example of GPs, pharmacies and the council working together to make sure we cover as many residents of Bury as possible.”

Lesley Jones, Bury’s director of public health, said: “Proper flu is nothing like a common cold – it can put you out of action for days, cause serious health problems and even be fatal for some. I urge everyone who is eligible to get their free flu jab to protect themselves and their loved ones, especially older people and those with underlying health issues.”
