​Pitch perfect – another 14 community groups win funding

Bury East residents came out in force to vote for which of their favourite local projects to improve community life should win money.

No fewer than 19 organisations presented their case for funding at Saturday’s Pitch event, which was held The Derby School, and 14 of them were awarded funding.

The successful organisations, and their projects, are as follows:

  • Chesham Fold TRA: Youth Club. To relaunch the youth club with worker-led activities to provide fun and tackle anti-social behaviour.
  • STARS: Activity Break. To give young people with disabilities new skills, challenges, friendship and independence. Funding will help pay for a residential holiday for ten people.
  • Friends of Gypsy Brook: Chesham Fold Community Garden. Create a communal space to be managed by residents, growing fruit and veg and encouraging wildlife.
  • Bury East Sports Association: Party in the Park. To provide gazebos at the annual community party.
  • Bury Street Pastors: Training and uniform for new volunteers. To train at least four recruits to promote a safe environment in Bury town centre at night.
  • The Young People of St John with St Mark: Pantomime equipment. To provide a PA system, lights, curtains and costumes for the young people to produce their own pantos and musicals.
  • Bury Veterans Breakfast Club: Defibrillator. To be located at the Mosses Centre for use by the community.
  • B:Easties Youth Club: Summer activities breakfast club. To provide healthy breakfasts and activities for young people.
  • Buddy’s for Children with Autism: Mental health counselling. To provide cognitive behaviour therapy for six months to help the emotional and behavioural needs of children with autism.
  • Communic8te: Sing and Sign. To teach those with hearing loss, and those with hearing, to learn sign language and lip reading and use those to build deaf awareness through music and songs.
  • Merrie Melodies: Afternoon tea. To provide afternoon tea and a singalong for 35 people who feel lonely or isolated.
  • Enterprising Youth CIC: Uplift. Supporting young carers who are suffering from stress, with activities and training.
  • Baby Basics Bolton and Bury: Baby Basics. To provide basic baby equipment (toiletries, sterilisers etc) to expectant mothers who cannot afford them.
  • Bury2gether: SEND Support. A forum to champion the interests of parents and carers who have children with special education needs and disabilities, including outreach support, training and leisure opportunities.

A final Pitch event is coming up on Saturday (30 June, from 11am) at All Saints Church, Hebburn Drive, Bury. Why not go along and cast your vote?
