Press release -

Police chief wants your views on restorative justice

Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd is asking for people’s views on out of court punishments for certain types of crime and anti-social behaviour.

This new Community Remedy Document, introduced under the 2014 ASB, Crime and Policing Act, is a menu of options that victims of certain offences will be able to choose from in cases where  the Police feel  this is the most appropriate way of dealing with an offence.

The measures within the remedy document must have been proved previously to work, be appropriate for the type of crime and be community based. Examples could include directly repairing any damage caused, doing unpaid work in the community and attending alcohol education classes.

Once the Community Remedy document has been drawn up and agreed by the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, the options agreed will be available to victims from the autumn.

The Commissioner would like surveys to be completed by Friday 5 September and the online link is::http://www.gmpcc.org.uk/consultations/giving-victims-a-say-in-the-way-offenders-are-dealt-with-2/
