Radcliffe wins £20m boost – and you decide how it’s spent

Radcliffe has won a further £20 million to support jobs and communities over the next decade – and local people will help decide what it is spent on.

The money is to come from the Government’s Pride in Place fund, providing £2m each year for the next ten years.

The investment could help revive high streets, restore parks and breathe new life into local facilities. Communities will also gain new powers to seize boarded-up shops, block nuisance businesses, and buy beloved local assets before they close.

The Government says these decisions will be made by an independent board, comprising community leaders, the local MP and council representatives.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, leader of Bury Council, said: “This is tremendous news, coming on top of all the investment we’ve put into regenerating the heart of Radcliffe, which local residents can see happening every day.

“A crucial part of our Let’s Do It strategy is to bring about improvements in close collaboration with local people – the people who are best placed to decide what their community needs. This also builds on our People and Communities plan, which we brought forward alongside our regeneration plans.

“That’s why we are fully in favour of Radcliffe people having their say in where this money goes.”

He added: “Radcliffe has faced many challenges over the years, but it is also a town of great potential and opportunities. This latest financial boost only speeds up that process and truly makes Radcliffe a great place in which to live and work.”
