Ready? Aim! FIRE at The Fusilier Museum

The cold Easter weather did not deter families from visiting Bury’s Fusilier Museum.  The school holidays saw the chance for families to do a ‘good egg bad egg hunt’, move to music with homemade maracas and race balloon rockets.

The ‘good egg bad egg hunt’ explored the high and low parts of the Fusilier’s past and was designed by work experience student Pippa Beardsley.  The winner of the hunt was 6 year old Alice Taylor who received a parcel of goods from the museum shop.

Both Wednesday afternoon crafts saw the museum filled with families, with crafts led by the museum’s enthusiastic volunteers.  Maracas were made on the first Wednesday and children marched to music with military precision.  Most popular, with over 100 attending, was the second craft racing rockets.  Balloons were filled with air raced along a piece string with children eagerly getting ready, aiming the balloons and firing the makeshift weaponry.

Helen Field, General Manager of the museum said: “We all had great fun and brought the history of the Fusiliers to life.  We are very much looking to our May half term family activity which will be a bug box on Wednesday 29th May.  Places are limited so you need to book in advance by contacting the museum on bookings@fusiliermuseum.com.  It is free and there will be real bugs to hold, all inspired by the bugs troops see when serving in foreign lands.”
