Recycle for Bury Easter egg winner

A very out-of-the-ordinary Easter egg was won in a free prize draw at Ramsbottom Chocolate Festival on Sunday by Katherine Brooks and her daughter Alice of Walmersley, Bury.

The individually designed egg, donated by Bury Council’s recycling awareness team, was branded ‘Recycle 50% for Bury’ and lovingly created by Slattery’s of Whitefield.

Along with more than 100 other residents at the festival, Katherine entered the free prize draw by taking the ‘Recycle more for Bury’ pledge and committing to recycle 50% or more of her family’s household waste.  Pledgers also agree to a range of other ‘green’ actions, including: only using their rubbish bin for waste they can’t recycle; recycling all the right items in the right bin; and not using plastic bags in any of their recycling bins.

Councillor Mike Connolly, leader of Bury Council, said: “The recycling awareness team had a great day on Sunday. Events like this provide us with a fantastic opportunity to engage with our residents, answer queries and make sure everyone knows which items should go in which bin.

“We hope that Alice and her mum really enjoy their ‘Recycle for Bury’ Easter treat.

“The family recently chose to take advantage of our offer to slim their rubbish bin for free, so I’m sure they will be keen to stand by their pledge to recycle 50% or more.”

Later in the year, Katherine and all the other ‘Recycle more for Bury’ pledgers will get the chance to win one of two £50 shopping vouchers donated by The Rock. Residents who wish to take the pledge online can do so now at www.bury.gov.uk/recycling-pledge or, to downsize a rubbish bin for free, visit www.bury.gov.uk/requestabin
