Remembering those lost to suicide - It’s OK to Talk

Bury Council and the Samaritans Bury held a special event to raise awareness of suicide and remember those lost to it.

Held to mark World Suicide Prevention Day, residents were invited to the ‘tea and talk’ event at Samaritans House, Knowsley Street, Bury where the message was It’s Ok to Talk.

Visitors were invited to fix a ribbon to a ‘memory tree’ to commemorate Bury people who have died by suicide in the last three years. There are an average of 18 suicides a year in Bury, most of them men, due to factors ranging from social isolation to employment and financial worries, or drug/alcohol or mental health problems.
