Press release -

Second wave of road improvement works starts in Longsight Road

Longsight Road in Ramsbottom is the second main road to be upgraded under a £10 million programme of major road improvements in the borough.

Work will start on Monday (19 March) to resurface the carriageway and carry out footway and drainage repairs between Canon Lewis Hall and Holcombe Brook Primary School.

Preliminary drainage and footway works will be carried out Monday to Friday using temporary traffic signals outside peak periods (9.30am to 3pm). However, it will be necessary when undertaking the carriageway surfacing to extend the working period, from 7am to 8pm, and into the weekend.

The works are scheduled to last four weeks, and the road resurfacing has been planned to take place during the school Easter holidays (3 to 15 April) to minimise disruption.

Some sections of the road will need to be closed to traffic during the resurfacing works, and local residents are advised to make alternative parking arrangements during the day. The council will try to maintain limited access to all residential and business properties, and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Diversion routes:

Junction of Peel Brow with Bury New Road closure: Bury New Road – Eliza Street – Mayfield Road - Longsight Road and vice versa.

Junction of Eliza Street with Bury New Road: Bury New Road – Manchester Road – Peel Brow and vice versa.

The Longsight Road scheme is one of five major road improvements scheduled for the coming months. Work is already under way in Peel Brow, Ramsbottom, and other schemes are Tottington Road, Parkhills Road and Manchester Road.
