Secondary School Placements 2026

Children going to their first choice of secondary school has increased since 2025.

Out of 2354 applications, 90.2% (2,123) of Bury children will be attending their first choice of local high school this September. This is a 1.2% increase from 2025.

If you have a child heading to secondary school in September and are looking for advice, guidance and support around the transition into Year 7, come along to our free event and get your questions answered!

Our Year 6-7 Transition event will take place March 11th, 3-6pm at the Elizabethan Suite, BL9 0SW, with local secondary schools and multiple support services, including

Full 2026 Transfer to Secondary figures

All Bury residents have currently been offered a secondary school place for Sep 26, including all late applications (2354 applications from Bury residents)

1st preference offered – 2123 – 90.2%

2nd preference offered – 146 – 6.2%

3rd preference offered – 32 – 1.4%

53 offered an alternative school as no preferences could be met – 2.2%

97.8% of Bury residents offered a school of preference.
