See the plans for Bury Market and the new flexi-hall

Residents are being invited to view the plans and have their say on the transformational proposals for Bury Market and the new Flexi Hall.

New images have just been released for the multi-million pound development, which will form a central part of wider pans to regenerate the town centre, including a new Bury Interchange and redeveloped Mill Gate centre.

A number of public consultation meetings will also take place in January when visitors can talk to the project leads and give their views on the proposals.

These drop-in sessions are on Wednesday 18, Saturday 21 and Friday 27 January, from 10am to 2pm at the Bury Market Hall entrance foyer.

Can’t make these events? A consultation page has also been created on the council’s One Community website where people can read about the scheme, view the images and provide feedback. Go to www.onecommunitybury.co.uk/burymarketregeneration– the survey is open from 9 to 29 January.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, leader of Bury Council, said: “The plans for Bury Market are a key part of our unprecedented investment into transforming the town centre. Using council money, plus £20m we won from the government’s Levelling Up Fund, we aim to secure a thriving future for our much-loved market.”

The plans for Bury Market include:

  • A new oversailing canopy to cover and future proof the existing outdoor market and make it more attractive and visible
  • A new flexi-hall that can be used for events and to support wellbeing, enterprise, education and cultural activities
  • Enhanced public spaces around the market such as more seating areas, greenery and better signage.

Cllr Charlotte Morris, cabinet member for culture and the economy, said: “Bury Market dates back to the 1440s and is rightly described as the jewel in Bury’s crown. With changing times, and shopping habits, it is essential that we make sure our famous and award-winning market is ready to meet the challenges of the future.

“Please take this opportunity to view the plans and give us your views on how Bury Market can flourish for many more years to come.”
