Services come together to celebrate Ageing Well in Bury

Celebrating Ageing Well: A Week of Wellness Across Bury

Partners from a wide range of services came together once again to deliver a vibrant and engaging week of wellness activities, supporting older adults in our communities to age well. The programme offered a rich mix of social, cognitive, and physical wellbeing events designed to inspire connection, movement, and joy.

Highlights included a community health walk and a Pilates class held in Whitefield, promoting physical activity and mindfulness. The ever-popular Sporting Memories session provided a space for reminiscence and social interaction, reinforcing the importance of connection and shared experiences.

The week culminated in a spirited walking football tournament on the hallowed turf of Bury FC. It was heartwarming to see the smiles and energy of participants and spectators, especially those from PERSONA, who made the trip to cheer on the teams and engage with local services.

This showcase was a testament to the power of partnership and the commitment of our community to support ageing well in Bury

Cllr Tamoor Tariq, deputy leader of the council & cabinet member for said: “As a proud representative of our vibrant community here in Bury, I am delighted to speak about one of the most important journeys we all share — ageing well. Growing older is not just about adding years to life but adding life to those years. In Bury, we are committed to ensuring that every resident, regardless of age, can live well, stay active, and feel connected. Together, we can build a borough where ageing is celebrated, not feared. Where every person, regardless of age, can thrive physically, mentally, and socially. Let’s make Bury a place where we don’t just grow older — we grow stronger, together.”

So what did people say about the week:
