Step into the gardens and help shape a great future for Whitefield
Whitefield’s Old Town Hall Gardens will burst into life at 1.30pm on Sunday 19 October with a vibrant celebration of community, creativity, and nature. Visitors will also be encouraged to take part in a public consultation to help shape the future of this open space.
Everyone is invited to take part in an afternoon packed with hands-on activities and local collaborations, from leaf printing with Art in Whitefield to planting wildflowers with Incredible Edible Prestwich and District. Visitors can explore the gardens’ rich history through a History Hunt, meet the trees with Lancashire Wildlife Trust, and share their own stories of the space. With delicious coffee from Six String Coffee and opportunities to engage with Bury Council and the National Trust, it promises to be a fun and meaningful day for all ages.
The event marks the start of the delivery phase of the adopted Whitefield Town Centre Plan, which sets out sets out the vision of Bury Council and the Whitefield community for how the town can develop and improve.
Bury Council has secured funding from the UK Government’s Local Growth Place Flexible Grant to deliver this event and some of the proposals in the plan.
Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategic Growth said: “This event is just the beginning of breathing new life into the gardens and into Whitefield town centre. We’re inviting residents, businesses and community groups to join us for an enjoyable afternoon and to have their say in shaping the future of this once cherished space through the public consultation.
“Together, we can reimagine the Old Town Hall Gardens as a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable part of Whitefield town centre.”
Small Things Creative Projects are leading the event on behalf of Bury Council, with the aim of sparking imaginative ideas and fostering inclusive conversations about the future of Old Town Hall Gardens.
Event details are as follows.
Time: 1.30pm to 4pm
Date: Sunday 19 October 2025.
Venue: Old Town Hall Gardens (next to Slattery’s)
Activities:
- Make a leaf print with Art in Whitefield.
- Join the History Hunt to discover more about the history of the gardens.
- Plant an acorn or wildflowers with Incredible Edible Prestwich and District.
- Meet the trees and create a tree guardian with Lancashire Wildlife Trust.
- Talk to the National Trust about their Stand Up for Nature Campaign
- Make a story stick with Wild Souls Forest School.
- Learn more about the Whitefield Town Centre Plan with Bury Council
- Delicious coffee from Whitefield's own Six String Coffee
- Share your stories about the Old Town Hall Gardens and see the stories that other people have shared.
