Take the pledge - become a Bury Snow Angel!

Bury Council is calling all residents to become a Snow Angel and help their relatives, friends and neighbours to stay safe, warm and well in their homes this winter.

Residents can pledge to do as little or as much as they want - such as referring a relative for energy efficiency grants, helping friends to use fuel comparison switching sites, checking relatives are using their heating effectively and wrapping up warm, clearing paths outside vulnerable neighbours’ homes in snowy weather and checking if vulnerable neighbours need any essentials (e.g. milk and bread) in bad weather.

You can sign a pledge online - visit www.bury.gov.uk/snowangel - where you will also find useful advice and links to other websites for information on how you can achieve all of the above.

Councillor Rishi Shori, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “This is a great opportunity for residents across the borough to help others to stay warm, safe and well in their homes this winter. It will help residents keep comfortably and affordably warm, reduce the risk of falls and prevent the exacerbation of cold-related illnesses; it may even save a life. I would recommend that residents sign up online now and pledge to do all they can.”

  • Win a Snow Angel award! We would      like to highlight and reward individuals who help others this winter – why      not nominate yourself, a friend, neighbour or relative to win a Snow Angel      award?

Please send nominations to snowangel@bury.gov.uk or write to: Department for Communities and Wellbeing (Urban Renewal), Snow Angel, Bury Council, Town Hall, Knowsley Street, Bury BL9 0SW.

You should say why, in no more than 500 words, why you feel someone should win the award, and enclose a photo or video of the work they have done. We may share this information on the council’s website and in publicity materials, so please make sure that other people in these photos or videos are happy for this to be shared. Closing date for applications is 30 March 2015.
