Press release -

Thanking our army of unpaid carers

The Mayor of Bury will lead an online ‘thank you’ next Friday to the many hundreds of unpaid carers across the borough.

Councillor Tim Pickstone will be joined by council leader Eamonn O’Brien in paying tribute to their tireless work looking after the borough’s most vulnerable people, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The session will be livestreamed on Friday 19 March at 5pm and will be recorded so that anyone, particularly those unable to watch live due to caring responsibilities, can view it later. The link is here: https://thankyouburycarers.vidius.co.uk/

Councillor Andrea Simpson, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The carers of Bury are an invaluable part of our local communities. The support each one of them provides makes a tangible difference to improve the quality of life of a friend, a relative or fellow resident of this borough and the wider community.

“The coronavirus crisis has brought home just how important they are. The pandemic has affected every aspect of life for local people, increasing people’s need for support. Unpaid carers have been at the frontline, ensuring those they care for have been protected from harm and supported, while foster carers have continued to turn around the lives of vulnerable children, providing support and care at times of national need.”

She added: “Social distancing restrictions mean it is not possible to gather physically to thank them all. But, on the first anniversary of the pandemic, we want to demonstrate our gratitude now - and on behalf of the borough - for everything they have done, not just in the last 12 months but at all times. In Bury we look out for each other and to those providing care we say ‘thank you’.”

The Bury Carers’ Hub provides a single point of access for adult carers who are caring for an adult Bury resident. The team works directly with individual carers to discuss their concerns and needs and provide information, advice and support to maintain their health and wellbeing. The Carers’ Hub can be reached by calling 0300 303 0207, by text to 07786 201226or email enquiries@burycarershub.org.uk
