Press release -

Vax jabs up to 239,000 – come and join us!

Residents are being urged to get their Covid vaccinations and take the total number of jabs beyond the current 238,793.

The latest figures show that 129,918 people across Bury have now had their first dose of the vaccination, and 108,875 residents have had both jabs.

Clinics are running most days across the borough, with no appointment needed, for anyone aged 18+ who lives, works or studies in Bury.

Also, young people who are within three months of their 18thbirthday are welcome to come for their vaccination (except at Fairfield) - to avoid delay, we recommend that those in this age group bring a form of ID.

Clinics are offering first and second doses – for the latest list, go to https://www.bury.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=15987

Remember – to get full protection against the virus, you must return for your second jab.

To offer the best safeguard against infection, second doses are offered at 8+ weeks after the first dose. Patients may be offered their second vaccination earlier but only to avoid wastage or because they have a specific medical condition.

Young people aged 12 and over will now be offered the vaccination, if they have specific underlying health conditions that put them at serious risk of coronavirus, or are household contacts of people whose immune system is suppressed. GPs are currently identifying eligible children and will notify their parents/carers in the coming weeks.

Lesley Jones, Bury’s director of public health, said: “The infection rate in Bury is coming down, but it’s still far too high for us to be complacent.

“I urge everyone to continue to wash your hands regularly, take part in ‘track and trace’ where it’s offered, and self-isolate if you test positive. Also: meet outdoors if you can, and continue to wear face coverings in high-risk settings such as public transport, shops and health centres.”

She added: “Thousands of people, particularly young people, have not had their jabs yet. We urge them to go along to one of our many walk-in clinics and get vaccinated, including those aged 16 and 17 when they become eligible for their jabs shortly.”

Advice and support on all matters related to coronavirus can be found on the council’s website: www.bury.gov.uk
