Press release -

Voter registration forms to be delivered to all homes

Nearly 84,000 Household Enquiry Forms (HEFs) will be delivered to all properties across Bury shortly as the annual electoral canvass begins.

The canvass ensures that Bury Council can publish an accurate Electoral Register on 1 December. This register will then be used throughout 2016 for any elections or referendums held.

The way people registered to vote changed last year to the new system of Individual Electoral Registration. Previously, just one person could complete the form for all the people living at a property, but Individual Electoral Registration now gives every person the responsibility to register themselves.

These Household Enquiry Forms are pre-printed with residents’ details, and people are required to either confirm or amend their details. They can return the form in the envelope provided or use the telephone, text or internet reply services.

Mike Owen, electoral registration officer, said: “You can only vote if you are on the Electoral Register. I urge all residents to check their details on the form and either confirm or amend the information to ensure that they are correctly registered.”
