Vulnerable residents receive some winter warmth

Employees at Six Town Housing have spread some festive cheer this week by delivering 320 Winter Warmer packs to elderly residents in Bury.

The free packs containing items including blankets, gloves, chocolates, mince pies and other food items will be distributed to the most vulnerable residents, helping keep them warm and well this winter.

Winter is a particularly challenging time for the elderly; research has shown they are more likely to be affected by health problems associated with fuel poverty, highlighting the need to keep elderly residents warm and well during the winter months.

Six Town Housing identified the most vulnerable residents to receive a pack, while contractors Novus, Concept Heating, Casey and Jackson & Jackson were generous in contributing funds towards the scheme. Six Town Housing also helped deliver a further 80 donated packs as part of a winter warmth project organised by Sure and Fusion 21.

Radcliffe tenant Mrs Sylvia Howarth was particularly pleased with her pack, and said: “This weather can be quite hard for us older people, so it was such a nice surprise to know that someone cares. It’s difficult keeping warm over winter, but the scarf and gloves are going to keep me warm when I venture out.”
