We stand together during Greater Manchester Hate Crime Awareness Week

No one should face hate, violence or abuse because of who they are, who they love, where they’re from, what they look like or what they believe.

That’s the message for this year’s Greater Manchester Hate Crime Awareness Week (5 – 11 February 2024).

Hate crime can have a devastating effect on someone’s life.

If you’ve been a victim of hate, help and support is available even if you don’t want to report the crime to the police. Whatever you’ve been through, you are not alone.

Bury Council is committed to preventing and reducing the levels of hate crime by ensuring the victims and witnesses of hate crime are supported and offenders are brought to justice.

Through the Bury Community Safety Plan partners work together to tackle hate crime, to support victims of offences, and build stable & cohesive communities.

A series of events across the borough are planned during the week to encourage reporting and support victims and witnesses:

Saturday 3 February

Promotion of hate crime awareness at Radcliffe Football Club fixture

Monday 5 February

Hate Crime Ambassador Reporting Centre awareness and training, including GM Police and Victim Support at Bury Town Hall 10am -12.30pm. To book on contact r.thickett@bury.gov.uk

Tuesday 6 February

Report hate crime at a surgery with the BAME Project and Greater Manchester Police at Millgate Shopping Centre (from 10am)
