Wine-dering around Ramsbottom!

A late-night shopping and wine tour around Ramsbottom has been hailed as a great success.

Friday’s event (6 December) was organised by local traders and attracted a huge range of visitors to the town centre.

Stuart Rothwell, owner of The Vineyard, said: “We took wine enthusiasts on a tour of Ramsbottom high street where they enjoyed a variety of wines and cocktails hosted by various independent retailers with demonstrations from experts in the field.”

And Ian Smith, owner of Red Jewellers, added: “What a fantastic evening! The atmosphere was great with many groups of four or more, whole families, groups of couples and ‘girls on tour’.

“We did tremendous business. Because you had couples together in the shop it was ideal time to find out what the ‘other half’ liked and many people came back on their own to buy on the Saturday and Sunday.

“Showcasing Ramsbottom as a collection of diverse independent businesses working together seemed to strike a chord with the people I talked to and they all thought it a great night."

The Ramsbottom Business Group will be looking to host these late nights again next year.

Councillor Jane Lewis, cabinet member for leisure, tourism and culture, said: “We are delighted to help support these initiatives. Social and shopping events such as these bring visitors to the town and support our local independent retailers, helping to cement Ramsbottom’s growing reputation as a quality visitor destination.”
