Press release -

Wrap up, be bright, stay safe morning and night

Road safety officers will be helping cyclists and pedestrians at an event held at Bury’s Vue Cinema on The Rock on Wednesday 28 October.

They will be handing out fluorescent and reflective items, such as bags, armbands, magnets and spoke reflectors, between 10am and 3pm.

The team were also out last week at Bury Light Night, and say it’s vital that road users can ‘Be safe, Be Seen’, now that the nights are drawing in.

Jan Brabin, the council’s senior road safety officer, said: “Children and adults like these resources because they are practical, colourful and well designed, but they also carry a very important message.”

“Be Safe, Be Seen” top tips:

  • Choose a well-lit route.
  • Bright or fluorescent clothes work best during the day, especially in dull or misty weather.
  • Reflective material is the best for night time and will show up in car headlights.
  • It is against the law to cycle at night without a white front light, a red back light and a red reflector at the back, so make sure your bike is fully equipped.
